David Boudia is America’s answer to the question: “What happened to USA Diving?”

Storming the 2012 Olympic Games with a Bronze medal in Men’s 10m Synchronized Diving with partner Nick McCrory and a Gold medal in Men’s 10m Platform Diving, David’s meteoric rise was expected by those that knew him, but a shock to the rest of the world.

Afraid of heights most of his life, David overcame that terrifying fear and became a tremendous youth diver. Under the tutelage of Adam Soldati at Purdue University, David became a multiple NCAA champion and even won a Silver medal at the 2011 World Championships in Men’s 10m Platform Diving. Despite this storied career, Diving’s Chinese powerhouse was expected to win Gold in London. In fact, David’s journey almost ended in the preliminary round after finishing in 18th or last place. But with each round, David grew in confidence and was seated in fifth after the simi-final round. Moving on to Finals, David led in all but one of his six dives. But on his last dive, David made history. With the hometown hero, Thomas Dailey of Great Britain, hitting a beautiful dive, David who was second to last, needed to have a great dive to move ahead. And he did, clenching Gold and becoming the first American male diver to do so since Greg Louganis in 1988.

With a global TV audience of more than 219 million people and the immense pressure only the Olympic Games create, David hit the dive of his life, receiving the highest score in the competition and winning the Gold medal he had dreamed about as a child. David was quoted as saying, “I was scared of heights and the thought of jumping off a three story structure, going 35 mph into a still pool of water frightened me. But I am an adrenaline junkie and my goals and passions were always clear: to represent the USA and win a Gold medal for my country, my sport and my family.”

David’s personality and charm make him one of the most liked athletes in and out of the sport. He is passionate about keeping today’s youth healthy and active, as well as making the world a better place. He became a representative for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America program in 2012 to help further that goal.    Coveted by corporate America as both a spokesperson and a motivational speaker, David is excited about his opportunities to share his passion and give back to those in need of a positive role model.
